WEEK 1 GETTING TO KNOW YOURSELF & YOUR BUSINESS (1).png

This week is all about mindset and patience

This week is the end of our Dig Deep 9 month Program and we wanted to end this course with this module because learning to have a growth mindset and patience with yourself is what is going to help you become successful.

As we all know, growth is not a linear path, and building a business has many highs and lows. You will face many obstacles along the way, and often you are pushed to your limits of what you think you are capable of.

As you build your business, you will be tested to see if this is what you really want and you will often have to rely on your passion for why you started your business in the first place.

What Is a Mindset?

Your mindset is a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself. It influences how you think, feel, and behave in any given situation.

According to Dweck, there are two basic mindsets: fixed and growth. If you have a fixed mindset, you believe your abilities are fixed traits and therefore can't be changed. You may also believe that your talent and intelligence alone leads to success, and effort is not required.

On the flip side, if you have a growth mindset, you believe that your talents and abilities can be developed over time through effort and persistence. People with this mindset don't necessarily believe that everyone can become Einstein or Mozart just because they try. They do, however, believe that everyone can get smarter or more talented if they work at it.

The Impact of Mindset

Your mindset plays a critical role in how you cope with life's challenges. When a child has a growth mindset, they tend to have a hunger for learning and a desire to work hard and discover new things. This often translates into academic achievement.

As adults, these same people are more likely to persevere in the face of setbacks. Instead of throwing in the towel, adults with a growth mindset view it as an opportunity to learn and grow. On the other hand, those with fixed mindsets are more likely to give up in the face of challenging circumstances.

10 Steps to Achieve a Growth Mindset in Business

1. Be 100 percent accountable

To grow, you need to be accountable, or willing to accept responsibility. As an entrepreneur, you must start to be responsible and accountable to yourself. As you grow, you will be demonstrating accountability and its value to your team; they will follow your lead, making accountability part of your company’s culture.

2. Do not be concerned with what others have

Avoiding envy is fundamentally important when you’re trying to be focused, driven and leading. Focusing on what others have and what they are doing sets expectations that simply slow you down and take focus away from your purpose.

3. Become an expert in your field

I meet so many so-called “headliners,” people who skim the surface. In a world fueled by fake news, Photoshopped social posts and other illusions, it’s critical to become an expert. Strive to become truly good at what you do—so good that everybody wants your services. Stand out based on your speciality.

4. Don’t focus on your failures

When we learn that we should work on our weaknesses, we tend to think we need to hold on to our failures. But focusing on your failures gives detractors too much leverage against you. Instead, claim and learn from your failures and then focus on learning and growing from your mistakes.

5. Do the work and put in the time

Greatness does not come when you put in just ten percent. Put in ten percent, and you’ll achieve only two percent of your potential. To achieve greatness, you’ve got to be at 100 percent, putting in the time and effort.

6. Do what you love for the people who love what you do

One of my favourite sayings is, “You need to be purpose-driven doing what you love for those who love what you do.”

Discovering your purpose is as important as finding your niche. You will bring much more value and expertise to those that need you, and you will have so much more fun delivering your products and services.

7. Don’t focus on money

Business leaders that focus solely on money are never fully satisfied, and often lose their customers. Instead, care about creating value. You want customers to say how proud they are of your products and services. Focus on creating fans through value creation.

8. Achieve your outcomes quickly

Do not be obsessed with perfection. Instead, be fast. Getting somewhere first has more value than being perfect but last. That first-mover advantage is very important for growth. Develop an appetite to fail often and quickly, developing your products and services quickly and better aligned with the needs of your customers.

9. Be grateful for what you have

Be grateful for what you have now. Be grateful for what you’re going to achieve. Be grateful for what you don’t have. Gratitude is a gift and a core requirement for a growth mindset. The true expression of gratitude sets off energy that has the power of drawing people towards you. Explore and embrace it.

10. Become self-aware and understand your purpose

If you want to succeed in life, you must know your purpose. If you want to have a business growth mindset, you must become self-aware and understand your purpose. Self-awareness has the power to align your will and humility, which attracts people to you through your purpose.

Week 36 - Mindset & Patience (2).png

the benefits of patience in business

In this post, we will discuss the importance of patience in business, and how it can help you shape an institution that is bound for success.

  • Good Things Comes to Those Who Wait

In a business context, patience can reward us with positive recognition, better sales, increased customer satisfaction, and a stronger bottom line. By working towards our business goals in a dedicated fashion, we will be able to sustain our pace, allowing us to realise the fruits of our labour sooner than expected.

  • Better Judgment

Judgment and patience are two sides of the coin that is much valued in the business. In the race to gain an advantage over their competitors, business owners often think that sharp business plans and excellent talents are the values needed to guide the business on the right path.

  • Build Stronger Reputation

Building a business that stands the test of time requires us to be persistent despite the odds. If we know that something could potentially become a great success, then we need to dedicate ourselves to a long, hard determination. Be the last man standing in your industry, and people will respect and choose you as their first choice to do business with.

  • Improves Self-Control

When we are patient, we allow ourselves to know how to properly react to a given situation, rather than get carried away with our emotions. Patience helps us maintain our composure, regardless of whether we’re facing an irate customer or facing an online brand crisis.

  • Increase Your Level of Tolerance

Challenges are a natural part of running a business. As a business owner, we need to have a high level of tolerance to accept and face these challenges diplomatically. When we accept that challenges are always just around the corner, we can respond more audaciously. When we understand that being in the business arena can be very painful sometimes, we will be able to face the challenges with no extra suffering and bitterness.

  • Cultivate Great Team Culture

It takes time to build a successful business. As is always the case, it starts with being patient and committed to everything we do to achieve excellence that people and other business leaders will always look up to. You may have heard the saying “It’s often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock.” Take your time and plan very well, and lastly, never give up.

Dweck explains why it's not just our abilities and talent that bring us success-but whether we approach them with a fixed or growth mindset. With the right mindset, we can motivate our kids and help them to raise their grades, as well as reach our own goals personal and professional.

WEEK 36 PODCAST

DIG DEEP Podcast Recommendations.png

There is an ever-growing group of people who are saying no to a life lived at 110%. They are opting to slow down, simplify and focus on the things that are truly important. Brooke and Ben McAlary are two of them and in The Slow Home Podcast, they chat to others who have adopted a similar approach to life - slowing down, opting-out, saying no.
