We got the pleasure to do an interview with Alice Kearney, who is a participant in our Dig Deep Program. We explored why she wanted to take part in the Dig Deep Program, her new business and how she has found building her business.

Can you introduce yourself - your name and what you do?

I’m Alice Kearney, I work as a graphic designer and illustrator. I create branding for musicians and for music events such as the Northern Ireland Music Prize, Sound of Belfast and Women’s Work.

Why did you want to take part in the Dig Deep Programme?

I wanted to join the community and learn more about the behind the scenes processes for a successful business.

What is the new business that you have been developing?

I’ve been building my own design studio by working on creating a bigger portfolio of clients and a larger online print shop.

What has been your biggest hurdle since you started your business?

Staying on top of all of the extra admin that comes along with more projects and more products.

How do you see your business developing in the future?

I’d love to keep working on bigger brand projects, building my portfolio as well as developing and creating more products to sell online.

What misconceptions did you have about starting your own business?

How time flies and that by doing a little bit each day, it all adds up in the end.

What have you learnt about yourself since starting the programme?

That I should be more confident in myself and just go for it.

What/who influences/motivates you?

The support and advice I have received from the Dig Deep community have been fantastic. I really enjoy the whole creative process and not knowing what the next project is, is a big motivation. Taking care of yourself and good music helps too.

What has been your biggest accomplishment so far since starting your business?

The online response I have had to my new art prints has been really encouraging. I can’t wait to work on more.

What have you learnt about your business in the last 3 months?

That some processes can take longer than initially thought!

What things are you going to implement in your business in 2021?

Definitely creating and selling more prints online.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Be kinder to yourself, the creative process takes time.

Where can people find you online?
